👮‍♂️ My job as an intervention police officer

The intervention police officer is part of the local police force. They generally work within a team called Intervention (often known as the “first line service” or “patrol”). Their main role is to ensure daily public safety and to intervene quickly when a call or incident occurs.

Their main missions:

• 🚨 Respond to emergency calls (101/112): road accidents, fights, violence, ongoing burglaries, domestic disputes, etc.

• 👥 Ensure presence on the ground: patrol neighborhoods, deter crime, reassure the public.

• 📋 Record and write reports: report observed or reported facts (accidents, offenses, misdemeanors).

• 🔎 Control and secure: check suspicious individuals, vehicles, and situations, intervene during gatherings or public events.

• 🤝 Collaborate with other services: judicial police, traffic, specialized units, firefighters, medical services.

• 🛡️ Protect and assist citizens: provide assistance to victims, de-escalate conflicts, support vulnerable individuals.

Their essential qualities:

• Responsiveness and composure: ability to manage emergencies and pressure.

• Communication and empathy: dialogue with people in distress or anger.

• Team spirit: work with colleagues in sometimes risky situations.

• Versatility: no intervention is like another, you have to adapt quickly.

Working hours are variable and staggered (days, nights, weekends, public holidays).

• This is the first point of contact between the police and the public, making it a proximity role but also a frontline role in critical situations.💥
