About Willy Franklin

This was the first position I held after graduating from engineering school: Radio / GSM / Telecom Works Supervisor.
This is not a "typical" job that you truly learn at school.
I was mostly familiar with the Civil Engineering Works Supervisor role:
an environment where you are often assigned to a single construction site for several months.
There, you manage teams of workers and temporary staff, update operating procedures, schedules, deliveries, etc.
But in the field of telecommunications, it's completely different.
It's common to manage several construction sites in parallel, sometimes within the same month and across multiple geographical areas.
You manage:
technicians, site managers, subcontractors, colleagues,
you liaise with suppliers, design offices, inspection bodies, safety coordinators (CSPS),
you manage the budget, orders, stock, priorities...
👉 What's different between a telecom works supervisor and a civil engineering works supervisor
is that the telecom works supervisor often does the job
of a project manager,
of a site manager,
and sometimes even a commercial engineer, as they manage the budget, the financial aspect, and client relations.
💡 In this profession, when you are truly committed, attentive, and aware of your responsibilities,
🔑 And above all, the most important thing is not pure technique.
It's primarily:
field knowledge, team management, and methodology.
Skills that are much more important than technical knowledge.
The company cares little if you don't yet know about frequencies, or antenna types.
These are things that can be learned quickly.
👉 What really matters is your attitude, your ability to lead teams, make decisions, and organize work.
🎯 It is precisely for this reason that the company I started with preferred to hire a civil engineer rather than a telecom or radio engineer for this type of position.
