Sylvia Avila

Hello! I'm Sylvia, an American translator with over 10 years of experience. I've been living in Paris for about ten years and I love my job! When I was little, I was the kid who always asked "but why?".

So my natural curiosity and talent for languages led me to translation. In 2011, I earned my Bachelor's Degree in French and Communication from Tufts University (MA, USA). In 2012, I passed the entrance exams for the École supérieure d’interprètes et de traducteurs (ESIT) and obtained my Master's Degree in Editorial, Economic, and Technical Translation in 2015.

Since then, I've worked as a translator in the Regulatory Affairs department at Sanofi, the HR department of Laboratoire français du fractionnement et des biotechnologies (LFB), and the translation agency Telelingua France. In June 2019, I made a radical shift and took a position as a Commercial Manager (CHR) for the craft brewery BAPBAP, as I'm passionate about good beer, but ultimately it wasn't really for me.

I returned to translation, and since June 2020, I've completed quite a few projects for translation agencies as well as direct clients: safety regulations for industrial cleaning, radio shows, press releases for a medical conference, a company share transfer agreement, and more!
