IT Project Manager – AI-supported Document Extraction & DMS Integration

In my role as IT Project Manager, I was responsible for the conception, architecture, and implementation of an internal project for automating invoice processing.
The goal was to automatically extract, validate, and provide information from incoming invoices for downstream systems.

For this purpose, I developed a solution based on Microsoft Azure Document Intelligence (Form Recognizer), which analyzes invoice documents using AI and extracts structured data (e.g., amounts, invoice numbers, tax rate, total sum).
The processed information was then transferred to an external document management system (DMS) via a custom Java Spring Boot API.

I was responsible for:
Analysis and modeling of extraction processes
Technical architecture & integration between Azure AI and DMS
Development of backend interfaces in Java
Testing, logging, and monitoring of the processing pipeline
Project management, planning, and coordination with internal stakeholders
This project significantly reduced manual data entry and considerably shortened the processing time per invoice.
The system now forms the basis for further digitalization initiatives in the areas of document management and process automation.
