About Seren

I am a mobile engineer specializing in Android development using Kotlin. I have over 17 years of commercial experience in designing and developing applications and APIs.

I have worked on almost every type of project and technology, including R&D for Google, Vodafone, NHS, large e-commerce builds for companies like GymShark and Wayfair. I have worked with connected devices, bluetooth, electric bikes, Google wear, subscriptions and billing, maps and location services, video streaming, facial recognition. I have worked on large-scale projects, new projects, polishing, and animations. I continually adapt and learn the latest technologies and libraries available, including Jetpack, Coroutines, MVI, MVVM (too many to list :)).

I am able to jump into any project and be operational, or build a team and project from scratch. I like to get involved and communicate with team members across disciplines (design, UX, IOS, management, etc.) to create applications with well-written code, minimal bugs, and UI animations and polishing for an extra wow factor. I have a pragmatic approach to achieving balance and 'getting things done,' realistic business goals, and on-time deliveries.

Experience

  • Indeed Flex
    Android Developer
    November 2022 - Today (3 years and 7 months)
I worked within several teams during my time at Indeed. I led the Android portion of a gamification project within the main application that awarded points to users based on their behavior as workers. The screens are written using MVI and compose and include custom animations and transitions that give an extra level of polish and 'lovability' to this feature. During my time at Indeed, I also worked on the principle part of the application for bookings. In this area, there is a lot of legacy code that requires careful feature design, bug testing, and analysis. I created and documented proposals for key areas that needed modernization. I implemented analysis and funnel to improve our understanding of this area and quickly resolve support tickets. We did not have a QA team and therefore relied heavily on testing and automation testing with Appium.

  • Wayfair
    Lead Android Developer Wayfair
    May 2021 - December 2022 (1 year and 7 months)
I worked within an innovation team that created augmented in-store shopping experiences for Wayfair customers. This project was almost like a new project because we created our experience primarily in a silo from the main application and occasionally integrating it with other key teams and application functions. This way, we had almost total control of our project and technological freedom. The specifications were vague enough to allow us to explore the technologies best suited to the experience, and during my participation in this project, I was involved in planning, researching, and creating technical proposals. We ended up working extensively with QR codes and NFC that were directly linked to in-store inventory and electronic readers.
  • Gymshark
    Lead Android Developer
    August 2020 - May 2021 (9 months)
Greenfield. I was the head of a team of Android developers that I helped build and hire with 4 Android developers. I developed and architected the application from A to Z, from 0 to beta, then expanded the team and recruited and trained new developers. I accelerated the development of the most junior member of the team to become senior through intense training: 1-1 sessions, pairing, challenges with feedback, and confidence building. I helped set up and guide standards and processes.
