I'm Mike, with over 15 years in IT: starting in support, through ITSM administration, to Data Engineering at BGHW in Mannheim. Since early 2026, I've been doing this independently as MikeIT.dev.
My specialty is systems that have grown over years and that hardly anyone understands anymore. The Excel file with 50 sheets and cryptic macros. The Access database from 2009 that only runs on a single computer. The report that costs three hours of manual work every month. That's exactly where I come in: first understand, then clean up, then automate. Refactor instead of Rebuild, because that's usually cheaper and less risky than a complete new development.
Specifically, I help with:
- Excel/VBA and Access: Untangling macros, stabilizing databases, backend migrations to SQL Server
- Reporting with Power Query and Power BI: Manual click-athons become reproducible pipelines
- Python and SQL when Excel reaches its limits
- Local, GDPR-compliant AI integration (Ollama, RAG), pragmatic instead of hype
- Internal business tools and data pipelines
In addition, I bring experience from over 15 years of IT infrastructure: Active Directory, IAM, Citrix, ITSM. And because I enjoy programming myself, I also develop my own apps and small software tools on the side.
Part of my work also includes training and workshops on Excel, VBA, SQL, Power Query, Reporting, and AI. For me, a good handover is part of the delivery, not just an additional service.
