Michel Monteaux

“In late 1979, while an assistant director for cinema, Michel Monteaux left France and began a career as a professional photographer in Los Angeles. Eight years later, he moved to New Mexico, in the High Desert of Santa Fe. While he continued still life in the studio, he expanded his work to include portraiture and photojournalism.

During the six years he lived close to Native Americans, embracing their culture, he became involved in a struggle against their precarious situation and, alongside ordinary citizens as well as personalities like Robert Redford, fought against the gigantic project of nuclear waste disposal in southern New Mexico.

In the mid-90s, he returned to France and worked for the press (Libération, Marie-Claire, La Vie, Le Monde, Géo, Elle…) but also for large industrial groups (Alstom, ArcelorMittal, Total, Hachette, Saint-Gobain, Lafarge…)

Michel Monteaux tirelessly seeks to share his feelings about the upheavals in the geopolitical world, of a society now engaged in a desperate race while our environment tells us to slow down and reflect on the world we need to transform…
