About Markus

Some developers have a resume. I have a journey.
It started with Delphi — at a time when this language was the benchmark for modern software development. It's no coincidence that Anders Hejlsberg, the father of Delphi, later built C# and TypeScript. Anyone who thought in Delphi back then has a different perspective on software today than others.
Early on came the first major challenge: a gaming platform with 3D, physics simulation, and arbitrarily scalable rooms on distributed servers — including live updates without downtime and seamless migration between servers. Kubernetes didn't exist yet. We simply built the concepts behind it ourselves.
Then came the telecom world. Over 20 years in one of the most complex environments there is — ordering systems at one of Austria's leading telecommunications companies. Java, Oracle, technical and functional analysis, architecture design. Systems that handle millions of transactions. Here you learn what it means when software really has to work.
In between: a complete SmartHome solution — hardware, embedded software, and cloud backend as a complete package — when IoT was just emerging in the professional world and was still far from mainstream.

The next step: Intralogistics and driverless transport systems at one of Europe's leading AGV manufacturers. From developer to solution architect to product owner — and Figma as a tool that bridges the gap between design and development that most teams know but no one solves. Not a designer, but someone who speaks both languages.
And as a side note: Siemens Climatix. Building automation at the control level — one of the rarest skills on the market. Those who need it know why.
The result after over 25 years: Someone who covers everything from the first requirement to the finished system — and who knows how a problem feels before it becomes one.

Enterprise Migration & Remote Management Tools for one of the largest Austrian industrial groups

    June 2006 - March 2026 (19 years and 9 months)

As part of a group-wide Active Directory migration from NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 — including the consolidation of all subsidiaries into a unified directory — the enterprise software used lacked a crucial feature: flexible scheduling. Development of a web application for complete migration management and a lean Delphi tool without runtime dependencies for automated compliance checking on migrated PCs. Personal execution of the migration on-site at several subsidiaries.
Years later, a second tool followed: an offline inventory and remote execution system for PCs that could not reach the central inventory server. Inventory data could be transmitted via email, USB, or other means — server-defined command-line commands enabled remote actions such as automated trojan removal. The tool is still executed on every client PC of the group at startup.

Call Center Conversation Management Tool — in use and actively developed for 25 years
    SOFTWARE PUBLISHING
    February 2001 - March 2026 (25 years and 1 month)
    Linz, Austria
Development of an innovative call center tool with a graphical administration interface (in Delphi) for the visual design of arbitrarily complex conversation flows — similar to a word processor, but for conversation logic. The agent view ran as a web application based on .NET 1 Beta — at a time when web applications were still the exception. Including a fully implemented softphone directly in the application.
Technical highlight: A dynamic schema management that can extend entities with arbitrary attributes at runtime — without performance loss. Instead of classic key-value pairs, the database schema is physically adapted at runtime. A physical view automatically generates the SQL statements, a logical view combines OOB, global, and tenant-specific attributes into a unified view. Each tenant gets its own columns — with identical performance and full filter and sort comfort as with standard fields.
The software was only sold four times — but is still running productively at two customers after over 25 years. Fun fact: During this period, the telephone system was replaced four times at one customer and reconnected each time. The software was not. And it doesn't stand still: most recently expanded with GDPR compliance and Exchange 365 integration.
