About Mario

Hello, my name is Mario, I am a developer of Python, R and C languages in Linux-Ubuntu and Microsoft Windows environments. I have experience in using these languages in the application of Machine Learning methods for drug development and in assisting with the realization of science-oriented projects for undergraduate and master's students, but the knowledge I have acquired can be applied to any field.
Here, I summarize the projects I have completed.

I worked at INSERM, on a project where we developed different statistical models to predict which molecules (inhibitors) are active against PR2 (HIV protein). We developed these models based on the different properties of each inhibitor. We created a database with the name of each inhibitor and each (quantitative) property, then using different supervised analysis methods (statistical methods) in R, we obtained different models (mathematical equations where the variables are the most impactful properties) that allowed us to determine which inhibitors were most active against the target.
I also worked on a project where, from a database of PDB files (files containing atomic coordinates of a protein), we extracted, using Python, information from the PDB file for each protein to determine its different physical properties.

I worked on a project at the Institut Curie, where we predicted the movements of a biological system, using C, from images obtained by electron microscopy and not from atomic coordinates. To develop this model, we considered each pixel of the image as an atomic coordinate.

Python, R and Linux-Ubuntu Courses for Science
    EDUCATION AND E-LEARNING
    January 2016 - Today (10 years and 5 months)
    Paris, France
-I give Python and R courses in Windows and Linux-Ubuntu environments (all levels).
-I specifically help with IT projects oriented towards Structural Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, as well as projects oriented towards the digital field: the use of these languages in Mathematics and Physics-Chemistry.

Project: Inhibition of HIV-2 protease: Study of resistance mechanisms by structural bioinformatics approaches and search for new specific inhibitors (HIV2-Bioinfo)
    RESEARCH
    March 2015 - December 2015 (10 months)
    Paris, France
    Research Engineer.
-Setup of datasets for structural comparison of HIV type 1 and type 2 proteases, as well as their inhibitors.
-Comparison of the binding sites of inhibitors of HIV type 1 and type 2 proteases, using R and Python languages.
-Development of QSAR (Quantitative structure-activity relationship) models to predict the activity of inhibitors against HIV type 1 and type 2 proteases. To develop these models, I was responsible for applying supervised machine learning methods, such as Linear Regression, Random Forest, and SVM (Support Vector Machine), always using Python and R languages in the Linux-Ubuntu environment.

Project: Microtubule movements during depolymerization studied by normal modes from atomic coordinates and electron microscopy images
    RESEARCH
    January 2014 - June 2014 (6 months)
    Orsay, France
-I was responsible for developing a new method, using the C programming language, to calculate the normal vibration modes (a property of biological systems) of a microtubule, from images obtained by electron microscopy, without using atomic coordinates.
-Compare the results of the normal modes obtained by applying the method with theoretical values.
-The goal of this project was to reduce the calculation time of normal modes obtained by considering atomic coordinates.
