Summer Research Program at the Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation (ITaLI) involving the development of online learning tools, extraction of data from UQx through data mining techniques and the development of a new eLearning Gamification framework to promote self-learning.

During my time at ITaLI I was tasked with the development of a new learning tool called MindMap. MindMap allows Admin users to create activities with a visual graphing tool allowing students to create diagrams, model relationships and more. It also incorporates a Gallery that allows students and Admin users to view all the MindMap submissions from a specific activity.

In addition to developing the MindMap learning tool, I also wrote 2 papers in my time at ITaLI. The first was a design paper explaining the model behind the learning tool I had previously designed: PerspectivesX and has been successfully received for the DesignLAK conference in Sydney.

The second is titled “Gameful Design Principles for Gamified eLearning Systems” co-written with professor Pedro Isaias has been accepted for the ED media 2018, which I will present for in June.

Main responsibilities
The basic skeleton and design of the MindMap tool was provided by my supervisor, my task consisted in making the tool fully visual and deliver a fully working online learning tool.
