About Manuel

My name is Manuel Prugel and I am a freelance computer scientist (B.Sc.) with a focus on Embedded Systems. With over 5 years of experience in developing firmware, real-time systems, and hardware-close software, I support companies in realizing powerful and efficient embedded solutions. My expertise includes programming in C, C++, and Python, development for microcontrollers (ARM, AVR, ESP32, among others), and the integration of IoT technologies.
I place great value on clean, maintainable code and close collaboration with my clients to develop customized solutions that can sustainably withstand the challenges of the future. Whether it's prototyping, optimizing existing systems, or complete new development – I am your reliable partner. Let's realize your next embedded project together!

As part of my Master's thesis in collaboration with the company embeX in Freiburg, I am investigating the topic of Fuzzing of Embedded Systems with a Peripheral Proxy. In software development, fuzzing is an integral part of testing software for vulnerabilities. In recent years, hundreds of serious security vulnerabilities have already been discovered through fuzzing. However, fuzzing embedded systems is a major challenge due to limited resources and significant hardware dependencies. Therefore, in my Master's thesis, I am investigating a proxy approach where the firmware is emulated and all accesses to the periphery are forwarded to a real device.
