Manuel Checa Gómez

Researcher in heterogeneous catalysis and functional materials, with more than a decade of experience in catalyst design, sustainable chemical processes, and advanced characterization techniques (XPS, XRD, Raman, BET, TEM/SEM). My work spans catalytic valorization of industrial by‑products, photocatalytic processes, biomass conversion, and the development of materials for environmental and industrial applications.

I have contributed to multidisciplinary research projects across Spain and Germany, combining experimental work, mechanistic understanding, and process‑oriented thinking. My current research at the University of Hohenheim focuses on the valorization of keratin‑rich biomass into chemical products and advanced materials within a circular‑economy framework.

Throughout my career, I have worked on catalytic transformations of glycerol, photocatalytic ozonation, CO₂ photoreduction, and the development of bio‑based flame‑retardant materials. I enjoy connecting materials chemistry with practical applications and designing processes that improve resource efficiency and environmental performance.
