Education
- Master of Arts (MA) in Anglophone LiteratureParis-Sorbonne University2023Thesis' subject: “The representation of trees, their dialogue and interconnectedness in The Road by Cormac McCarthy and Richard Powers’ The Overstory.” Despite their stark contrasts in length, style, and subject matter, The Road and The Overstory share a common ground: the exploration of humanity's future. This thesis seeks to illuminate the dialogue and communion between humans and trees as depicted in these two contemporary American novels. By examining the representation of the environmental crisis, particularly the role and symbolism of trees, this study aims to understand how these literary works contribute to our perception of the natural world and our place within it. Ultimately, it will explore how both novels, while distinct in genre and tone, converge in their portrayal of humans and trees as interconnected and vulnerable participants in a shared ecological destiny.
