OSCaR (Opera Sceneries Circularity and Resource efficiency) is a project that encourages eco-design and resource efficiency in the management process of opera sets in Europe.
Its primary objective is to provide European opera houses' technical departments with easily understandable scientific knowledge to reduce the ecological footprint of their sets and enable them to make more informed decisions during the design and construction phase.
In addition to improving the ecological footprint, the second objective proposed by OSCaR is to confront production management with design methodologies to see how these approaches could help opera houses' technical departments better integrate sustainable development into their operations.
The project brings together three opera houses, Lyon, Gothenburg, and Tunis, in very close collaboration with experts from various fields: Cité du design, CIRIDD (International Resource and Information Center for Sustainable Development), the UNESCO Chair of ESCI-UPF on Life Cycle Analysis and Climate Change, and AdMaS (research center on construction materials).

The content of the missions is defined in three key stages:

1/ Production of a state-of-the-art report (case studies, interviews, observations, analysis of innovative processes/services in the cultural sector that have involved designers and/or design methods)
2/ This preparatory work will lead to the emergence of challenges/lines of thought that can be worked on during online workshops. The mission will then focus on the design, facilitation, and synthesis of these workshops (the number of which is to be determined).

3/ Finally, these workshops will lead to the definition of a final offline workshop that will take place during the International Design Biennale Saint-Étienne (Sustainable Development Week).
