The day I started English at school, I felt like I already knew it: the language, the stress accent, or words that reappeared as images or concepts in my head without ever needing to be translated seemed familiar. I liked to say that I had a bit of English blood in my veins and that my Bordeaux ancestors must surely be descended from Eleanor of Aquitaine!

My studies naturally turned to English, but it was especially afterwards that I was able to build a life that entirely revolved around the language of Shakespeare. English teacher in middle school, classic or business English courses in an evening class association for adults, head of missions at the Australian Embassy, president of my town's Twinning Committee since 2004, or translator of texts for various companies or businesses, not a day goes by without me using English. My greatest pride, however, remains the success of my children who all use English daily for their professions.
