Jean-François Even

It was in China that I was able to start an atypical career; by chance, at the age of 20, I went to China where I studied cinema until I obtained a master's degree in film directing at Wuhan University. It was in parallel with these studies that I began to work as an assistant director, cameraman, and editor on numerous short films, but especially on several feature-length documentary films (notably with director Chen Song 陈颂: The Clown (2015) and Online Celebrity (2017)). I then developed a taste for documentary filmmaking, and it has never left me since!

After 4 years spent in China, I returned to France where I worked on multiple productions as a freelancer; first as a cameraman for the France Presse agency, and for weddings, before doing event capture (TedX conferences, theater, festivals, concerts, etc.), as well as e-learning and music videos as a director, cameraman, editor, and photographer.

With experience, I embarked on an ambitious feature-length documentary film project by making a film about the Franco-Japanese artist Tetsuo Harada. A Franco-Japanese co-production, the film required three years of intense effort, but also allowed me to shoot for six weeks in Japan before finishing the film in France in August 2020. Distributed in cinemas, the film will soon be on French and Japanese screens. This momentum then allowed me to make a second film shot in several Asian countries over five years!

As you can see, I am not afraid of ambitious projects and am always ready to dedicate myself entirely to my work. I enjoy challenges and well-done work; thanks to my training in China, I also know how to work quickly and efficiently! I now have my own Photo/Video studio in Montreuil and am ready to collaborate with you on any type of project!
