Organizations are deploying ambitious IT systems. On the ground, teams create spreadsheets, Access databases, and parallel circuits to keep daily operations running.

Ultimately, data is not controlled, and the foundations are not in place to streamline processes or deploy artificial intelligence tools.

This is often called "shadow IT" – but this term is problematic. It reduces these practices to threats to be eradicated. I prefer to speak of "feral systems": tools returned to their wild state, revealing the gap between prescribed work and actual work.

My career has given me both ends of the spectrum:

▪︎ the field — director of technical support for one of the main naval aviation databases;

▪︎ strategy — Group Chief Data Officer at the Ministry of Armed Forces, ministerial-level data governance.

What I bring: an approach that articulates technology, data, and organizational sociology. Not to excuse disorder – but to reveal what grows and cultivate what matters.
