About Jean-Christophe

I am a Cloud Architect and DevOps Freelancer with 16 years of total experience.

I have had very diverse experiences, from functional analyst to application architect, IT project manager and more recently, IT architect then DevOps. I have worked for large companies, public organizations, and a startup.

I have developed my recent technical expertise primarily in the following technologies: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Terraform, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Python.

In recent years, I was the technical lead for devops in a data intelligence startup founded in 2016 and acquired at the end of 2021. While controlling costs, I supported the growth of its infrastructure, which supports high volumes and a large number of deployments for a company of this size, for both consumer applications and internal data processing pipelines.

I like applications to be designed taking into account both business objectives and operational constraints, while eliminating tedious tasks. I believe it is necessary for architects to test their solutions and be responsible for them up to Production. Finally, I work autonomously and can quickly acquire new skills.

In this vision, I now combine my skills as a cloud environment architect and DevOps engineer to help my clients define and design their applications in a cloud environment up to their deployment in a reliable and cost-controlled manner.

My ideal mission? One that allows me to both participate in the architecture and implement it in production! This could be the implementation of a prototype or proof of concept, or a mission in a limited or autonomous organization within a large group.

Foxintelligence is a startup that provides a market intelligence platform for e-commerce, founded in 2016 and acquired at the end of 2021 by Nielsen IQ.

I supported the growth of its infrastructure and developed my AWS and DevOps skills with a high degree of autonomy in a team of 2 people when I joined and 3 when I left, collaborating with all Tech teams, a total of about twenty people.

    My responsibilities:
    - Set up and manage shared services (VPN, container orchestration, monitoring tools, CI/CD tools, access management, address geocoding service…)
    - Automate application deployment (4 major stacks: b2c, b2b, acquisition, enrichment)
    - Monitor the information system, manage incidents, and resolve long-term issues.

    Key achievements
    - In an environment where many actions were performed manually, I convinced the development teams of the benefits of the infrastructure as code approach and systematized it with various tools: Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Vault (now OpenBao), Kubernetes.
    - I set up and stabilized a Kubernetes infrastructure running several thousand pods with node elasticity.
    - I supported and stabilized the scaling of large databases, particularly MongoDB which had collections of several TB, and certain internal services: tens of millions of address geocodings with Nominatim, several TB per day of Elasticsearch logs.
    - I maintained infrastructure costs at a level equivalent to a significantly larger scope.
    - I initiated the move to multi-region and multi-cloud deployments.
    - I mentored a Senior DevOps who became Lead DevOps Engineer, and recruited a devops engineer and an intern.

  • Ministère de l'intérieur - DNUM
    IT Architect
    PUBLIC SECTOR
    August 2016 - October 2019 (3 years and 2 months)
    Paris, France
Within the Directorate of Information Systems and Communication (DSIC, newly DNUM), Application Sub-Directorate, Application Design Office (BCA), I was involved in several projects to define or validate application, data, or technical architectures, covering all business areas of the Ministry of the Interior, excluding internal security.

I had to find synergies with other state partners: platform state (France Connect, API strategy…), simplification of administrative procedures (service-public.fr and other sites managed by DILA), work on digital identity (eIDAS, new identity cards…).

I was also able to self-train and work on automating the deployment of certain applications on the Ministry's private cloud. I also defined some architecture models using this cloud (authentication, inter-application exchanges…).

Finally, I conducted technological watch for my team and for current and future projects on various topics: opportunities for using public clouds (AWS), high-availability databases, opportunities for containerization and container orchestrators.

    Key tasks performed
    - Implementation of a data valorization service offering: deployment strategy according to offer clients; application and technical architecture of the platform composed of Tableau, Dataiku DSS, Vertica and Keycloak; creation of deployment scripts in the ministry's private cloud with Terraform and Ansible
    - Data valorization project: development of data integration pipelines using Dataiku DSS and Python, optimization of Vertica database usage, operational support
    - Dematerialization of proxy voting: feasibility study, business and IT architecture, implementation strategy
    - Redesign of a control system: IT and technical architecture (semi-thick client with external peripherals, central servers, audit, exchanges with third-party applications), continuous deployment on the ministry's private cloud with Ansible and Docker swarm
    - Support for other projects in scoping, architecture validation, or the use of the ministry's private cloud for the Road Safety Delegation and the Directorate General of Foreigners in France.

Électricité Réseau de Distribution France (ERDF, renamed Enedis) is responsible for managing the electricity distribution network for most of France, covering low and medium voltage, which is the network that conveys electricity from the high-voltage grid to the customer's connection point, whether residential or professional.

The 7 applications of the "Pilot range" manage the connection work for customers to the electrical grid, from the installation or modification of transformer stations, to the installation of meters and circuit breakers, including cable laying. These works require the collaboration of many internal and external stakeholders to ERDF.

The project consists of redesigning these applications, particularly by articulating them around a common set of functionalities. The mission takes place during the initialization phase before the project commitment.

I analyzed the existing system, modeled it using Aris, described the target state, and prepared the tools that would be used to manage the project going forward.

    Key tasks performed
    - Preparation of project phase tools for managing: IT system modeling in different project phases with Aris, steering with the SAFe framework, requirements engineering with Caliber
    - Modeling of the existing IT system (BPMN), the target system, and the initial steps of the trajectory
    - Definition of the initial requirements for the target system
Business analysis Modeling ARIS SAFe Requirements Management BPMN
