Due to restructuring in the Basel Area, I decided not to renew an employment with Novartis because I felt I needed more human contact and the working from home policy was taking a toll on me. I took this opportunity to go back to academia and focus on the topic of artificial intelligence and its implications. Seeing the rapid rise of AI, especially generative AI, I thought it was a good time to step back and question what is AI and the world we are stepping into.

Moved team to GDD AMDS (analytics team in the global drug development branch) focus solely on the R&D project I had been part of the past 2 years. I worked on exploratory research on using deep learning models during clinical trials. In particular on how to combine genomics, clinical and image information, identify patient subgroups and go beyond RECIST to evaluate drug response. I prototyped and implemented solutions to handle and preprocess large amounts of medical image data (30TB) and relevant metadata/genomics data on the new Foundry platform (Palantir) using pyspark and proprietary packages. I implemented proof of concept algorithms in Pytorch to test out the end-to-end data pipeline from data ingestion all the way to AI-driven analytics.
