- SoftwareEngineering Hauschel – Eigene Forschung & EntwicklungSoftware Architect and DeveloperOctober 2020 - Today (5 years and 10 months)Munich, GermanyAs long as I can remember, I've been connecting things. Previously with copper and aluminum cables, today with programs and language. How do people and systems exchange knowledge without adapting to each other? I've been working on this for years. The technical foundations have been available for twenty years. Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, laid them. Nevertheless, it hasn't caught on in the free market. No software manufacturer has an interest in being interchangeable. Economically understandable, a disadvantage for customers. The technology lives on today in research projects and big tech corporations. Small businesses take what they get.I've been researching this since 2020, parallel to client projects. Since the end of 2025, increasingly with Artificial Intelligence. Because an AI is just another system that wants a say. And it will have a say, whether we want it to or not.Currently, I'm primarily focused on how companies can use AI that runs in the EU or in-house, without being tied to a corporation and with costs that remain calculable. Small businesses often benefit from small models. Using cannons to shoot sparrows is currently trendy. The question of purpose is slowly getting louder, but is still barely audible.Currently, I'm testing how far small, locally running language models can go for typical SME tasks, for example, in categorization and data extraction from messages like emails. With a suitable graphics card, it runs smoothly; without one, it's too slow for everyday use. Qualitatively below cloud models, but good enough for most tasks.Alternative: AI models operated in the EU and offered under contracts according to European data protection law. Such offers are partly still in the beta phase.I look forward to bringing the experience from this path into your processes.

Gradual migration in phases where the old and new systems run in parallel. The task was also to extract the logic from the old system and translate it cleanly before it was phased out.
