Eva Achilles

Eva Kristina Achilles is a visual artist, illustrator, and political scientist with a classical musical background (opera), who primarily chooses painting as her form of expression. In her work, she channels her diverse experience by conceiving the canvas as a stage where (philosophical) questions meet the haptic character of highly pigmented acrylic paint.

Her work is a contemporary interpretation of Art Nouveau. She honors its tradition of merging art with daily life and expands her practice from the canvas to functional objects such as screens, decorative casings, and jewelry. Her creative process is characterized by synesthesia: she combines often golden ornamentation with the mechanical energy of Steampunk, the fragmented logic of Cubism, the magic of Post-Impressionism, and the pulsating rhythm of music. She plays with the tension between 2D and 3D, impasto, and structured chaos – dynamism is her ambition.

For Achilles, aesthetics and beauty are never merely decorative; they are the organizing tool to which even a deeper content level must always be subordinate. The deeper level becomes the material for a compositional decision. Her main themes encompass the human condition, womanhood, and our environment.
