Under the current question of Eastern Christians lie major contemporary issues: the survival of cultural minorities in the East, the common heritage (Byzantine, Ottoman) and its fratricidal struggles, exiles and dreams of return.

Through their odyssey, from massacres to resistance, this five-episode radio series takes us on the roads of Istanbul, Tur Abdin, China, Ethiopia, and Cyprus.

The writer and historian Sébastien de Courtois is the literary guide, accompanied by the voice of actor Pablo Pauly.

Analyses by specialists are also included: Jean-François Colosimo, Gilles Kepel, Jean Lebrun, Alain Desreumeaux, Bertrand Hirsch, Noël Quidu.

• Episode 1 – Turkey and the birth of a quest

In Istanbul, formerly Byzantium, Sébastien de Courtois traces the footsteps of Eastern Christianity. Between churches turned into mosques and erased memories, he explores the heritage still inscribed in the stones.

• Episode 2 – Tur Abdin: a civilization in balance

On the "Mountain of the Servants of God," seventy monasteries bear witness to a millennial Christianity. Persecuted, the community still fights for its survival.

• Episode 3 – The Nestorians, conquering Asia

From 7th-century Persia, the Nestorians spread their faith to China via the Silk Road, at the crossroads of nascent Islam and world trade.

• Episode 4 – Ethiopia and Arthur Rimbaud

In Ethiopia, Christianity unites with ancient rites and Jewish heritage. The episode follows this unique spirituality and the destiny of Rimbaud, exiled after his poetry.

• Episode 5 – Cyprus: the journey and the sacred

In Cyprus, between memory and survival, the future of Eastern Christianity is sketched out: retreat or coexistence in a changing East.
