About Boris

When a software project is about to fail the deadline, I take over. Every project I'm called into was once considered "almost finished" — until just before the delivery date, everything that has been neglected for months surfaces.

I take responsibility for making a faltering project truly deliverable. I make quick decisions because I know where to look: years as Head of Engineering leading a team — and never stopped working on the code myself. That's why I find the root cause, whether in the code or around it, and keep the whole system in view.

I meet deadlines — with finished work, not with half-baked quick fixes. You might be thinking now: "Delays can always occur in development." And you're right. My task once was to migrate a 25-year-old, safety-critical assembler firmware — around ten thousand lines — to a new microcontroller. There was a month's delay — which I immediately communicated openly. Result: Re-certification without a single objection, every changed line tested and documented — the customer's trust intact.

When things get tough — deadlines, difficult decisions, pressure — I remain calm and structured: options laid out openly, risks honestly named, decisions made clearly.

My development processes help rather than hinder (A-SPICE L2, IEC 61508, ISO 9001) — designed so that teams can adhere to them without losing speed and can continue working without me later.

"Botched work" doesn't show up during smooth operation, but only under real load. That's why I address the cause, not the symptom.

What I'm brought in for:
• Stalled software projects that really need to be "finished"
• Legacy systems and firmware/microcontroller migrations
• Interim Engineering Lead for projects in crisis
• Development processes (A-SPICE, IEC 61508, ISO 9001) that teams actually adhere to

I take on software projects that have gone off track and bring them into a truly deliverable state — as a firmware developer, migration specialist, and interim engineering lead under deadline and migration pressure.

When I'm called in, the project has usually been considered "almost finished" before. I make quick decisions because I know where to look: I find the root cause, whether in the code or around it, while keeping the entire system in view — not just a segment. I meet deadlines with finished work, not with half-baked quick fixes.

Current project: safety-critical firmware (C) for an industrial heating burner control.

    Focus areas:
    • Rescue & turnaround of stalled software projects
    • Safety-critical firmware development (C/C++, IEC 61508)
    • Legacy & microcontroller migration, reengineering of old systems
    • Interim Engineering Lead under deadline and migration pressure
    • What I implement, the team can continue to maintain without me

Establishment and leadership of the development organization — the team grew from 2 to up to 17 employees, and I remained hands-on with the code throughout. This was important to me: leading without losing touch with the ground.

I established the development processes and tool landscape and led them to TÜV certification — Automotive SPICE Level 2, IEC 61508, and ISO 9001:2015. Certifications and re-certifications passed on the first attempt without issues. I designed the processes so that the teams could adhere to them without losing speed.

Delivered over 100 customer projects with the team. Specialization in software migration, reengineering of legacy systems, and AUTOSAR development, in addition to obsolescence management and long-term maintenance (IEC 62402) over the entire product lifecycle.

I also led the embedded AI research project "noKat": an AI-powered optical proximity sensor that runs entirely on an ESP32 microcontroller — without a cloud, privacy-friendly. The AI model came from Fraunhofer Institute IMS (Duisburg); integration onto the microcontroller, training data, and project management were my responsibility. Result: 93.5% detection rate with 1.6% of the computing power of comparable cloud AI.
