About Benoît

Engineer by training, I manage agile development teams. Former front-end and back-end developer, I am always keeping up-to-date and listening to new technological advancements.

Passionate about agile methods, my successful experience at Sky in the UK made me love XP (extreme programming) and Lean Startup practices that we used on many projects that we put into production.

I enjoy sharing my passions and discoveries with my team and I seek to optimize the team's way of working so that we are always more productive, responsive, but also fulfilled.

    Software Engineering Manager
    PRESS AND MEDIA
    July 2018 - Today (7 years and 11 months)
    Paris, France
As part of this mission, I actively participate in the modernization of the digital platform by working with the development teams of Eurosport in Paris and London. I am also involved in the rationalization of the group's OTT solutions by collaborating with other teams within the Warner Bros. Discovery group.

I regularly contribute to the code and infrastructure of many projects in order to stay as close as possible to the developers and their concerns.

Depending on the needs, I work as a lead developer, architect, analyst, or facilitator within the development teams (approximately 50 web, iOS, android, and backend developers).

I am proactive in improving common engineering practices for the development teams, particularly the generalization of Extreme Programming (see https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_programming), but also:
    - TDD and Continuous Delivery
    - automation of acceptance tests
    - daily pair-programming
    - convergence of technologies for all teams, without restricting innovation capacity
    - strengthening the autonomy of each team

I initiated several initiatives that were very positively received by management:
    - training provided to developers on topics such as shell scripting, git, AWS, and terraform
    - generalization of pair and mob-programming in the Paris teams (web and backend)
    - organization of workshops to create a React component library and a GraphQL service
    - organization of demos for projects resulting from the workshops
    - facilitation of architecture sessions to feed the technical backlog of the web and back teams

The workshops organized in Paris or London helped to break down linguistic and cultural barriers. They had a very positive impact on the productivity and quality of exchanges between the teams.

I also actively participate in the recruitment of candidates for the development teams in Paris and London.

    During this mission, I:
    - introduced cucumber + selenium-webdriver functional tests
    - fully automated the continuous deployment pipeline
    - developed the Server Side Rendering part of the application using Razzle
    - implemented a Serverless architecture with Google Cloud, Firebase hosting & functions
    - created a very simple CMS for translations with Google Spreadsheet and node.js
    - regularly acted as scrum master to organize daily stand-ups and prepare production releases

Benoit worked within our full scrum team for over a year. Besides being a nice person, he has a mindset perfectly suited to modern development methods. Regarding technical skills, he is very (very) competent in javascript and ReactJS. His DevOps skills are also a significant asset. I highly recommend him... but I would prefer him to rejoin Quotatis teams :)
