About Benjamin

My first professional experience as an "Embedded Linux Developer" for 12 years at GEMALTO allowed me to acquire solid skills in embedded development. I have worked directly in the Linux kernel and "driver" development as well as on system scripts in BASH.
After working several times on GIT integration, I decided to move towards DEVOPS. I have been working in this field for 5 years now.

I first developed and implemented the deployment of applications in the field on bank terminals (+100,000) at VERIFONE. The installer's role was to receive orders from a server and execute them on the terminal, it had to manage installations but also restarts and send a status to the server. I worked in close collaboration with the server teams and the test teams.

Then, at GE HE, I worked on setting up the GITLAB CI/CD environment to improve the quality of deliverables and facilitate development cycles. It was necessary to take into account the different build environments of the service (VxWorks, Vivado, Matlab) so that the CI could compile these projects before authorizing the Merge of Merge Requests.

Finally, my last mission took place at SAGEMCOM AVS (Audio Video Solution). I also set up a CI/CD solution based on GITLAB hosting +800 projects and used by 100 users. The migration of SVN/GIT repositories to GITLAB was automated and carried out without interruption of service.
I was then asked to improve the "nightly builds" scheduled on Jenkins. The first step was to migrate all jobs to pipelines in order to version the code under GIT, then to virtualize the build environment using Docker images and finally to use Kubernetes in order to pool the resources of existing builders and have a flexible and "scalable" solution.

I joined the Backend team at Qorvo to participate in Gitlab CI/CD development tasks.
I was also entrusted with the development of features in python on a Merge Bot responsible for automatically managing Gitlab Merge Requests.
As the team was more IT-oriented, this allowed me to work on deployment tools.
All the configuration of Gitlab projects (300+) was managed by Terraform.
Finally, I was responsible for harmonizing the configuration as well as the pipelines of all Gitlab projects in order to guarantee a certain level of quality and security.

My mission at SPooN was to set up a build infrastructure as well as build automation with a CI adapted to the different Git source repositories (Android, iOS, Unity).

Initially, it was important not to store binaries in Git repositories because of their size. It was necessary to automate the generation of artifacts, version them in order to be able to store them in Google Storage (artifact registery).
Then the architecture of certain Git repositories was reviewed in order to bring more modularity to the development and to have more flexibility in the generation of artifacts.
This allows, via a dependency system between the artifacts, to centralize and better manage the content of future Releases.

Once the artifacts are available, I set up a Gitlab CI allowing developers to test their changes quickly via the generation of a test mobile app, in order to validate their Merge Request before "Merging" into the integration branch.
As for the "Release Managers", they can now trigger a complete release by simply placing a Git tag.
The releases, now composed of different artifacts, are automated via Gitlab CI.

Finally, the build infrastructure is based on VMs connected to a Kubernetes cluster (GKE) running Docker containers.
In order to optimize the costs of the build infrastructure, these VMs are instantiated on demand when a pipeline is launched and decommissioned when they are no longer used.
