Raphael Troncy

Raphaël Troncy is a computer science professor at EURECOM since 2009. He obtained a Master and Magistère degree in Computer Science from the Joseph Fourrier University in Grenoble (France) after spending a year at the University of Montreal (Canada). He received a thesis scholarship from the National Audiovisual Institute (INA) in Paris where he defended his thesis from the University of Grenoble (INRIA/INA) in 2004. He then obtained an ERCIM research fellowship to do a post-doctorate at CNR in Pisa (Italy) and then at CWI in Amsterdam (Netherlands). He was a senior researcher at CWI from 2006 to 2009.

Raphaël Troncy is an active member of the W3C, where he co-chaired working groups resulting in recommendations such as the Media Fragments URI standard. He is also an active expert for the European Commission (invited expert for at least one call per year for 15 years, reviewed over 150 proposals), for the National Research Agency (vice-president of the scientific evaluation committee 23 "Big Data" then "Artificial Intelligence"), and for various national agencies (Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Quebec).

Raphaël Troncy is the principal investigator of numerous European projects (H2020 Odeuropa, H2020 MeMAD, H2020 SILKNOW, CHIST-ERA CIMPLE, FP7 LinkedTV, FP7 MediaMixer, FP7 Petamedia, AAL ALIAS), EIT Digital (PasTime, 3cixty, S-MAX, EventMap, OpenSem) and national ones (ASRAEL, ANTRACT, DOREMUS, kFLOW, NexGenTV, WAVE, Datalift, ACAV).

His research areas cover data integration using semantic web technologies, modeling and deployment of large knowledge graphs in various domains (creative industries, cultural heritage, media, tourism, automotive, insurance), natural language processing and in particular information extraction based on embeddings and the development of conversational assistants, and knowledge-based recommendation systems.
