Description

Most events start with the form. A date, a location, a budget, a theme. I start one step earlier: with the question of whether an event is the right answer to what you want to achieve – and if so, which event exactly.

This may sound obvious, but it rarely happens. Often, the decision to organize something has already been made before anyone asks what it should yield. An anniversary because it's been ten years. A conference because it was also held last year. An employee day because a day was scheduled. That's where I start to pull. Not to be difficult, but to ensure that the investment – time, money, people – goes where it makes a difference.

Only when that strategic side is in place do we move on to the design. And yes, then I also look at the soft side: rhythm, language, atmosphere, the moment when a group switches. My background in NLP and the MaxPot trajectory help with this – I understand how interaction behaves in a room, and how to design a day that lands rather than is ticked off.

But it starts with the question no one asks: why are we actually doing this?
