Emma Okonkwo

Born to a French mother and a Nigerian father, I have been immersed in a dual culture since childhood. My bilingual home allowed me to become interested in French and English literature very early on, as well as the art of translation. This guided the choice of my higher education and reinforced my love for these two languages.

During my five years of higher education, I carried out a large number of translations of various and varied texts in order to train in the profession of translation. The texts were both literary and technical and thus allowed me to acquire a certain versatility in translation. Thanks to two years of studies abroad (Nottingham, England in the 3rd year; Atlanta, United States in the 5th year) and my family context, I am just as comfortable in writing as I am orally. My first professional experience was to see the translation part of my thesis (an American slave narrative from the 18th century) acclaimed and published.

Since October 2017, I have been working freelance as a translator and interpreter and continue to diversify myself thanks to a wide variety of translation and interpretation contracts.
